What our online students say about the classes
Brenda Lowther (Connecticut)
I love the class (Handbuilding porcelain dinnerware). It’s been super informative and I love the templates.
Michelle Benson (Australia)
I Loved this class (Understanding Porcelain)) I feel like its taken my work to the next level. I appreciate the medium of porcelain more and more. Every day that I work in my studio I am excited about the projects I have on paper and in my mind. Antoinette Is a wonderful teacher and her explanations are clear, concise and sensible.
Jan Klimper (Colorado)
Most excellent (Colored Clay). The instructions/demo were clear, the videos were well done, and the narrative was informative and personable. I also enjoyed the notes/reviews format and accompanying photos, as these will be a valuable resource to reference once the videos are no longer available. Bravo! Curt is very personable and open to sharing his technique and experiences. His passion for his art and the success of his students is clearly evident. Also, follow-up questions via e-mail had timely responses.
Elena Valtorta (England)
I am delighted with the materials and I truly believe that your classes (Porcelain Handbuilding; Handbuilding Pottery) are fantastic, helping me out already a lot of issues I have encountered so far.
Sharon Taylor (North Carolina)
I believe the course (Porcelain Tips For Wheel Pottery) is well organized. It’s not for beginners and after reviewing some basics with tips for porcelain, it was off into an expansion of repertoire that introduced new techniques, at least for me. I was also appreciative of the inclusion of carving tips, a surface decoration technique I’ve wanted to become more familiar with. David’s a good teacher. Since the pandemic we’ve all had to teach and learn remotely. He did a good job of reviewing my pictures and giving constructive criticism promptly.
Andrew Lutley (England)
I found the course (Colored Clay) excellent. Curt was very good about explaining exactly how he produces his own work and the video content was good. The time flew by and there is a lot of practical content, so I wasn't able to complete many of the various elements which were explained in the videos, particularly as my kiln is not fully functioning due to refurbishment. That is not a criticism of the course and I will very much enjoy trying out the various methods over the coming months. I really liked Curt's delivery style and sense of humour. I much appeciated his willingness to engage in email correspondence.
Melita Sankovic Klimperova (Croatia)
I have made a few tea pots in my life, but I was alway unsure if I am doing it correctly. That was the reason I entered this online course (Wheel Thrown Teapots). At first I wasn't sure if I would understand everything, because of a distant learning, but videos are detailed, easy to follow and Antoinette explained everything so nicely. I really appreciate knowledge about length and shape of spouts and handles and especially explanations about flow of the liquid in pots.
I am happy with the course and I have learnt a lot. Thank You Antoinette and Koos!
Althea Martin (England)
The course (Porcelain handbuilding) was exactly what I needed. There wasn't a wasted word and crammed with incidental detail like gold nuggets. I am in thrall to the diva !!
Ann McQueary (Virginia)
In-depth, excellent content (Colored clay). Clear demonstrations, helpful tips, the video content answered my questions and fed my curiosity. The Q and A answers to students was very helpful, as were the handouts and photo images of many different types of colored porcelain work. I have loved Curtis Benzle's work for many years and wondered how on earth he achieved his results. Despite a fair amount of eperience with clays, even with more plastic colored clays, this class really taught me a LOT! I have new information that will make me a better observer, and I am really excited to begin some experiments, both with translucent clays and with firing forms. Thank you so much for all of the care and effort you put into this class.
Liane Moffat (Australia)
Thank you for a great course (Colored clay). I enjoyed the format and the access to pdfs and the videos – but mostly Curt is such a wealth of knowledge and creativity. He conveys the information really precisely – and in a most enjoyable way.
Suri Poulos (England)
Kurt was so generous sharing his experience and recipes (Colored clay). I appreciate him answering all questions and sharing them with the group so we could all learn from them. I love his gentle humour as well, it made the class entertaining as well as informative. Really enjoyed it (colored clay) and learned a great deal. I received all I need to know to experiment with Kurt’s recipes and techniques and make them my own. The pace was good and the handouts appreciated and appropriate.
Ingrid Carlson (Washington)
Class content for (colored clay): wonderful. The responsiveness to email questions makes this stand out from other pre-recorded workshops I have taken. Teacher: Excellent. Nice voice. Nice pace. Perfect balance between speaking and showing. Keep doing what you do!
Anne-Charlotte Siret (France)
Different techniques are addressed (colored clay), all are complementary and very interesting. Curtis teach with passion , pedagogy and available his knowledge. He is a really good teacher, create as much interaction as possible with an internet course.
Ram Laar (Texas)
It is just perfect (understanding porcelain). The class covers the basis to the more advance explanations. It Helps a lot about how to buy, built and use different tools. I really like that the class covers a little about the esthetic. It helps people without arts background.

I am so thrilled to have found this course (colored clay)! I have been working for a year with coloured clay and specifically Nerikomi techniques, but finding it very challenging getting any information. I am finally understand how to refine existing knowledge and achieve that elusive translucency! The depth of detail Curtis provides is what makes this course invaluable.

I am enjoying my class (glazing with Ron Roy). I have been very busy working on glaze recipes and working with the Seger unity molecular formula. We’ve had excellent communication between us, and I’m working on a large project where I’m making many trial glazes. Thank you for organizing this class. I appreciate it very much.

I recently completed an online course on porcelain (understanding porcelain) and found it to be an incredibly enriching experience. The course offered a comprehensive curriculum with knowledgeable instructors, well-structured lessons, and a supportive community. The materials were well-organized, the videos were engaging, and the course provided a solid foundation in porcelain art while nurturing creativity. I highly recommend this course to anyone interested in exploring the art of porcelain.

I enjoyed all that Mr Roy had to offer and his instruction was clear and precise (Glazing with Ron Roy). I appreciated the clarifying questions that were sometimes asked by the interviewer. Mr Roy is incredibly knowledgeable and I appreciated the walk through of glaze formulation and chemistry.

The videos and commentaries are detailed and explicit. The PDF notes are great. This is by far one of the best online courses (wheel thrown tips for wheel pottery) I have taken to date. David is a great teacher, great potter and a wonderful person. He offers great advice. I have learnt a lot from him. Thank you, David. I can’t think of anything that could make this course better.

This was the most wonderful class (porcelain handbuilding). I improved my technique and appreciated all the good hints and demonstrations. I highly recommend this class to anyone working in porcelain. Antoinette is an absolute delight! She is thoughtful and cheery in her demonstrations. And she is generous with lots of very good advice and hints about how to work with the "Diva" , her name for porcelain. I especially appreciated the videos and plan to watch them again.
Thank you Antoinette and to Koos as well for the video technique.

Excellent content which (to my knowledge) is not available anywhere else. Having just finished your Video Glaze Course (Glazing with Ron Roy) — I want to extend my thanks for your detailed & very helpful overview of what I know is many years of hard earned experience. Your video explanations are invaluable. I hope all viewers realize your level of professionally grounded support is very rarely available. Thank you so much for generously sharing your wealth of practice.

Many thanks for the detailed information that was posted in the videos and text description (Shino glazing Connie Christensen). Everything was clear. I was able to repeat the technique Shino glazing without additional questions. Connie Christensen - Teacher.
A teacher who wants to learn from. I really want to take another her class Faceted teapot set.

This class (understanding porcelain) is really helping me push the limits of what I can do with porcelain. When I first came across some examples of Antoinette's translucent pieces, I was mesmerized. SOOO happy I found her class. It is full of incredibly helpful tips in each step of the process to manipulate/add/cut away the clay into incredible shapes. I now understand how to deal with the 'thirstiness' of porcelain, have the benefit of tools I hadn't used before, as well as additional trimming tips and design suggestions. It's a whole new world to explore. Fantastic class in all respects.
Carole Frederick (Virginia, USA)
I feel so fortunate to have been able to take the class. I really do understand porcelain's idiocrasies more. Taking the class also improved my throwing and perceptions about how to address the clay. Antoinette is a excellent teacher. Her delivery made me feel I was sitting right there in front of her.

The videos are of high quality, and it almost felt as if I took this class (take throwing to the next level Nan Rothwell) in person. Very knowledgeable teacher. I especially appreciated that Nan took time to answer my Emails. learned a lot from this class, and I am very happy that I decided to take it. I especially benefited from the sessions about lidded jars and lamp making and wiring. Can't wait to get to the wheel again, and build on my new skills.

Much more than I expected (colored clay). Curtis is really nice, affable and down to earth. He anticipates questions (or answers them punctually afterwards) and is very respectful when giving opinions or talking about other techniques and learning artists. Nice to see such a pro so humble and eager to keep learning.

Reviews of TeachinArt online classes
I started porcelain a few years ago. It has been a learning curve full of lovely discoveries and Antoinette and her team have been there for me every step of the way. From learning about hand building to wheel throwing, from glazing to firing I have basically learnt everything I know from her wonderful courses.
I took 8 courses with Antoinette and two with other teachers from TeachinArt (David Voorhees and Connie Christensen) and I asked questions, persevered and little by little I managed to progress and develop my own understanding about translucent porcelain.
I feel very grateful to Antoinette and Koos for their wonderful sets of teaching videos and for their dedication to teaching and their warm support.
If you are a beginner or an advanced specialist in translucent porcelain I highly recommend TeachinArt as you will find everything you need to learn about all sorts of very detailed and clearly explained strategies to create beauty out of porcelain.
Antoinette will invite you to discover the magical world of translucent porcelain that she herself calls the "Diva"!

It is crazy to think about how far I've come since I took Antoinette Badenhorst's class on (introduction to porcelain). That class was a real turning point for me.

One reason I signed on to teach with “Teachin Art” (colored clay and AAMAL) is that the entire program is overseen by an experienced and respected teacher: Antoinette Badenhorst. You can rest assured that anything you are taught in a “Teachin Art” class is a “best practices” technique.

The content of this class (porcelain handbuilding) exceeded the college courses I have taken in ceramics by a tremendous amount. It was a lot of information to take in, and all of it was pertinent and valuable.

Antoinette, I wanted to tell you that I had a moment of healing when I trimmed the inside of my porcelain bowl for the 1st time today.
I was told to never trim to the edge and never EVER trim the pots right side up.
Well, I finally did it today - I dared to trim ... I trimmed all over like you showed in your videos, and especially loved doing the inside. ...and oh my goodness - it felt to liberating!!!
I compared it to the work I made prior to taking your class (understanding porcelain) and the pots feel like they are from different planets, different makers.
Not only did the trimming turn out successful, I had a emotional break through - like I walked a tight rope for the 1st time, didn’t fall off and lived to tell about it!! 😭😭😭 Thank you! 🙏🏼💗
Thank you for giving me courage without even knowing, and a means to have an honest relationship with this diva (porcelain) ... and with my inner diva. 🦋

I'm your student from "Understanding porcelain" course and I just wanted to say thank you fot this amazing opportunity to learn online, because there's no way I could ever find something like that in my city or even in my country. I know I've been very quiet all this time, but this is only because your course is so full of information: each time I had a question I immediately found the answer in your files or videos.
Elizabeth Recsy (Switzerland)
I’m very happy that I’ve found your excellent courses. For me every video teaches new things or answers the questions I had. You’re very detailed in your explanations and that’s a huge help for someone like me, with no previous knowledge. (Colored clay)
Curtis Benzle (TeachinArt instructor - Alabama, USA)
I just today heard from a former student who had recently taken an “in-person” workshop with a different artist and the announcement was made that the teacher would not repeat herself(really!) and there were no pictures allowed. Compare that to TeachinArt, where you are encouraged to ask any question until you understand the answer AND you can go over the video time and time again. I am so happy to be part of the TeachinArt program!

Antoinette is an amazing instructor. I took her online porcelain class as well as a live one and learned invaluable techniques that I use on daily basis with any clay. I would highly recommend this class to beginners! (Pottery for beginners)
Nancy Murnyack (Ohio, USA)
This has been the best e-course I have ever taken. Antoinette and Koos, both were very approachable and thorough. When I had a specific problem with throwing, Antoinette was right on the problem, requested I make a video of myself throwing and had plenty of advice and encouragement.
The things I appreciate the most in the Understanding Porcelain course are:
1. Antoinette takes the time to explain the whys along with the hows.
2. The course is very organized.
3. There is a lot of information packed into every lesson.
4. Both videos and printouts cover each lesson.
5. Both Antoinette and Koos are very personable; making you feel like a friend, rather than a distant student.
I would recommend this course for everyone!

I have just finished watching the pinching teapots classes and wanted to say how informative they are and how much I enjoyed it. I feel I have learned so very much and wish to thank you for sharing your knowledge. I think your class was excellent value, thank you
Glenda Simpson (Georgia, USA)
Antoinette, you teaching is so clear and easy to understand. I am throwing better than I ever have.

This e-class is just EXCELLENT. The content is fabulous, and the instruction is so in-depth, yet easy to understand. Your wife is very charming too! I am half-way through and so excited to have been able to finally watch the videos. I will definitely buy more classes from the two of you in the future!
Janice Shack-Marquez (Virginia, USA)
Antoinette Badenhorst, I would never have believed that I could throw five bowls that look so much alike and that are beautifully thin. Your class is terrific!
Amanda Pinkas (Isreal)
Thank you for the fantastic e-course! So much very practical and useful info!!! I absolutely adore Antoinette and Koos!!! Antoinette is a total delight, and very approachable and helpful!! Thank you for your generosity of spirit and your humor.
Deb Davis (Canada)
Enjoyed the class. Got some really good throwing tips and was challenged to push beyond my comfort zone. Loved Nan's honesty. She was a real help when I asked questions and I would definitely take another of her courses.
Isabel Magalhaes (Germany)
I am really enjoying the online course with David and learning a lot. David has a wonderful way of explaining and showing what works for him. I enjoy very much his way of explaining and great interesting unique suggestions ... such as the bamboo tool. I appreciate very much his long detailed feedbacks. Very stimulating. Great reviews of the week
Anne Davey (New Hampshire, USA)
I love handbuilding and have learned so much already. There are so many little hints and tips in the videos - I am finding them very helpful.
Ann Kenworthy (Massachusetts, USA)
Hi Nan, Even though I've been potting for years, you exceeded my expectations. I didn't need the throwing basics, but it was good to review. Your teaching is excellent, and the tips! When I got to wiggle wires I swooned. I'm going to have my brother send me all kinds of fishing line and a dozen dowels (pre-drilled) so I can make my own.
Josias Amaral (UK)
Hi Antoinette, your course is brilliant. I certainly will do the other courses as well.
Sarah Hildebrandt (Texas, USA)
Miss Antoinette, I wanted to thank you and your husband for all the hard work that y'all have put into making this platform for learning ceramics. I really enjoyed that your personality came through while you were instructing, the lessons were by no means mundane & I certainly was never board. You included great tips and tricks along with pushing me to think outside the box in my throwing and altering.
Kate Ellin (New Zealand)
Well structured class, videos flowed easily from one to the next allowing me to follow along and come out with a teapot at the same stage as Antoinette's. Camera angles etc, were really good, you could see what you needed to.
Agnese Aljena (Latvia)
Thank you, Antoinette and Koos! I learned soooo much! And that feeling, when you start to feel and are not afraid any more... My love to porcelain and ceramics is just growing to the moon (and some day will come back as well). So thank you very much!
Patricia Forst (Canada)
The course was well thought out and clearly delivered. The photography was well done, giving us great views of exactly how each pot was made. Very clear instructions and I enjoyed the little bits of humour that popped up periodically.
Laura Howe (Michigan, USA)
The videos are so well done and edited very well. There was so much covered it was hard to absorb it all. I really enjoyed the last set of videos on making the 'envelope' bowl.
Anne Vega (Florida, USA)
Marcia did a nice job teaching the course and was generous with her knowledge. She also was very open to all the questions asked and she answered quickly and thoroughly. I personally took the class to learn saggar firing and I learned so much. I really loved that part of the course and would have like to have delved a bit deeper into the process. That being said it was very informative and I am eager to start my own experiments! I will look for upcoming workshops eagerly! Thank you!
Cherri Lamarr (Colorado, USA)
I love how everything is explained and appreciate the great camera angles and close-ups to make sure I get to see everything...as if I were present in the room.
Jane Morton (Delaware, USA)
the details of the process that were shown in the videos and Antoinette's explanations were spot on. Also the ability to submit question would clear up any issues I was having. I had limited use of porcelain when I started but now it is mostly what I use. Standard porcelain and adding cottin linten to the clay. Was a great boost to me when I needed a new direction. Antoinette is very entertaining and informative willing to share her expertise with students.
Marcia Grant (Illinois, USA)
It is obvious that Antoinette has extensive knowledge and experience in working with the Diva! There are lots of tips along the way and the camerawork is excellent in showing exactly what Antoinette is trying to show and explain. Antoinette has a very relaxed approach.
Clelia Mandrilly (New York, USA)
Antoinette is a great teacher, enthusiastic and generous. As you watch the videos you can feel how she really wants to share her knowledge with the students.
Linda Lebrun (Canada)
That was a great workshop, and a lot of fun. Now that I’m back in my home studio and working with porcelain, I realize how much you taught and how much further I can push the “diva” than I was doing before.
Cheryl Herr (Iowa, USA)
This course (thrown dinnerware) is making a huge difference in how I throw. Thanks so much for showing your meticulous care in making the various pieces. Wonderful.
Faja Schroeder (Germany)
Dear Antoinette, dear Koos thank you for your wonderful course and for your help. Your course are great! I learned understand porcelain. I can make pots and vases now. And i can make my porcelain flowers now! And I can plant my porcelain flowers in porcelain pots! Without this that would be impossible! Thank you!!!
Nathanael Addison (USA)
I have been working with ceramics for a number of years and frequently seek out different methods of learning. I am taking 'Porcelain Tips for Wheel Pottery by David" and have learned so many things that I've already incorporated into my work. David's instruction of making a lid with a flange is brilliant! I've used his method and made 8 successful lids in my first 2 sessions! David also teaches how to make a spout on a large pitcher, and how to throw thin vessels, and an excellent way to work with a tall piece - even if thin and appearing 'wonky', there are finishing touches to make a fabulous piece! David is extremely clear in his teaching style. He is easy to understand, and does a great job in explaining verbally, as well as showing students how to do things. There are take-away notes after most of the weekly sessions, containing an overview of what was covered that week. The course is engaging and just as good, if not better than classroom instruction. Believe me, I replayed the flange lid lesson over and over, and by the time I was at the wheel, I was comfortable in knowing exactly how I would accomplish the task. Thank you, David for the great class!
Ann Kenworthy (Massachusetts, USA)
I'm taking David's course (have also taken three of Antoinette's) and am so pleased with the video instruction, Koos' excellent video shots, and the cool tool tips. David is a wonderful teacher, and I've really enjoyed the series. His critiques have been so helpful, too. They even inspired me to go back to basics and just throw a series of cylinders to work on my heavy bottom problem, and it worked.
Jodi Fox (Pennsylvania, USA)
I learned so much from this class! I had previously treated stoneware and porcelain as the same bodies, which explains my frustrations with it. After watching your videos, I successfully threw and trimmed with real porcelain. Adding vinegar to the water makes throwing much more pleasurable.
Amy Strapec (Pennsylvania, USA)
Thanks again Antoinette and Koos for your beautiful spirits! Antoinette, we are already thinking of how we will get to another workshop with you either up in the north or back in Brasstown!
Rynie Tredoux (South Africa)
I enrolled for all Antoinettes classes so far, and i enjoyed every minute of them all, and i have learned so much from her. Would love to be able to buy the online videos if that would have been possible.
Appreciate it a lot that Antoinette took the time and effort to share her fast expertise with us all. Thank you so much and keep those classes coming.
Michelle Maki (Georgia USA)
You have taught me so very much in these past few weeks! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your knowledge and the way you express the process through the videos! Your course is what I expected when I took my initial pottery course, however that was not to be. My questions were always answered with resistance. I wish I could express how much I really value your talent!
Evelyne Schoenmann (Switzerland)
I'd like to say a few words about the e-course. I'am one of Antoinette's students in her e-course classes. When I first heard about the course, I wanted to join, but was thinking: "how can that work? We students are scattered all over the world. How shall we listen and work as if together in a room?" But I knew Antoinette already from LinkedIn and so I trusted her. She and her husband Koos did a great job, I must admit! We get plenty of information about the origin of porcelain (did you all know porcelain is man made?) and about its characteristic. We get videos where we can see Antoinette working and telling us how to do things, just as if we were in the same room! We have the porcelain tea room on fb to meet and chat and discuss questions/answers. We get homework and can upload pictures of it, so that Antoinette can see our problems (or our success). She is teaching with heart, soul and passion! We all are very content with the course.
Thank you, Antoinette, for making it possible!
Monique Vanmollekot (Belgium)
Antoinette, I just watched the videos of this week. Thanks for the great videos. YOU ARE AN OUTSTANDING TEACHER. I ve taken potery courses in the Academy of Arts + several training sessions with different potters, I never had such a detailed training and explanations with such knowledge sharing. Nobody explained to me to avoid slip with porcelain ....after e xplanations, it s so evident, you are right.Thank you so much.
Emrys Le Roux (New Jersey, USA)
I have to say I am very very pleased with this class so far. I have taken clay building and porcelain classes and no one has gone into as much detail as you have in the few classes we've had so far. Thank you, I look back now and see I didn't get my money's worth but with your class I am. Will be a forever student of yours. Thank you for such an opportunity.
Ann Kenworthy (Massachusetts, USA)
First, Antoinette is a superb teacher, and Koos is a master videographer. He gets detailed shots of hand positions, etc. And I can watch to my heart's content until I understand. If you expand your enterprise by presenting other clay artists, please be sure they are as well prepared and articulate as Antoinette, who has clearly put a great deal of thought into her presentations. As a learner, I found the flow impeccable, the video shots amazing. Compared with the videos on Ceramics Art Daily, for instance, the videography is waaaaaaay superior. I think it's because you take the time to edit carefully, and it makes all of the difference in the quality of the teaching. The balance between design and production is also wonderful.
Valorie Scherr (CA, USA)
I know all the information you've shared in this class has already made me a better potter. Thanks soooo much!
Mary Wilson (MD,USA)
I'm really glad I took this e course..Understanding Porcelain. I had thought I should take a more advanced course since I already work with porcelain. But I'm humbled by how much I learned, even a bit overwhelmed. You answered questions that I didn't even know I had and brought up my standards for porcelain work. Now that I know better I must do better. Thank You Antoinette.
Martha Cheney (Ed. D MS, USA)
She is a highly skilled teacher who shared her knowledge and skills patiently. Regardless of the setting, Antoinette’s passion about pottery is obvious. She is a well-prepared presenter who accepts responsibility for engaging students of all ages in the creative process.
Brenda Wolf (Canada)
I'm now totally obsessed with trimming my pieces as thin as possible. Not sure that's a good idea for functional ware! I'm spending far too much time trimming but once I see a peek of that pinky orange glow peeking through I can't stop myself! In telling myself that I need to push the limits. Hopefully I'll learn soon enough what can and can't be done. I guess I'll see what happens in the firing.
Elaine Rebman (GA, USA)
I did not know what to expect but the class was far above my expectations. The amount of clear and and detailed information was most generous. The information on finishing was extremely helpful for me. Best wishes and thank you.
Grace Lin (CA, USA)
Thank you so much for the wonderful envelope instruction, Antoinette! smile emoticon It's very inspiring to see how you create such beautiful pieces. I really like it when you touch on the subject of how to make the pieces pleasing to the eye, paying attention to the proportion, size, angel, form,...etc., in addition to the technique.
Annie Clough (Australia)
I have learnt soooo much from your teaching Antoinette, that I can carry over to all my pottery pieces, I cannot thank you enough. And don't forget Koos, who also has given me support when I needed it. I can't wait to start the next course.
Dympna Painter (Australia)
I have just finished watching the pinching teapots classes and wanted to say how informative they are and how much I enjoyed it. I feel I have learned so very much and wish to thank you for sharing your knowledge. I think your class was excellent value, thank you
Glenda Simpson (Georgia, USA)
Antoinette, you teaching is so clear and easy to understand. I am throwing better than I ever have.
Ann Richards (England)
I am absolutely loving the course - thank you. My throwing and trimming has really improved over the last four weeks.
Elizabeth Recsy (Switzerland)
I’m very happy that I’ve found your excellent courses. For me every video teaches new things or answers the questions I had. You’re very detailed in your explanations and that’s a huge help for someone like me, with no previous knowledge.
Liz Allen (Maine, USA)
