"Curt is very knowledgeable and open to share his knowledge, also super kind and fast in answering questions.
I love how he approaches his own work as well as teaching, keeping in balance knowledge, pragmatism and sense of humor." Laura (Italy)
"
He anticipates questions (or answers them punctually afterwards) and is very respectful when giving opinions or talking about other techniques and learning artists. Nice to see such a pro so humble and eager to keep learning." Esther (Spain)

Curt's e-course: Colored clay; AAMAL (All Artists Making A Living)

Curtis’ signature artworks are translucent, porcelain sculpture and architectural lighting.  They are represented in major museums and collections around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Smithsonian, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Montreal Museum of Art, Seto (Japan) Cultural Center and the White House Collection.

Curtis received his B.F.A. from the Ohio State University, MA from Northern Illinois University and apprenticed in pottery with Robert Eckels.
He is Professor Emeritus at the Columbus College of Art and Design (Columbus, OH) and has taught over sixty workshops throughout the world.
Curtis' artwork is created using colored, vitreous, translucent porcelain. Colored stains are incorporated directly into the porcelain, which provides both creative immediacy and the ability to use the material for both two- and three-dimensional expression.
Light infuses the work through the translucent character of the porcelain. Colors change, blend and oppose based on the visual response of each piece to its luminous environment.
Much of the imagery Curtis uses is constructed from repeat patterning. This fascination with creating complexity out of essential simplicity is at the core of all his work.

Curtis is a former Trustee of the American Craft Council, served on the Board of the Craft Emergency Relief Fund(CERF) and is currently the president of the Alabama Craft Council where he continues to promote learning and career success for studio artists.
